Department of Physical Therapy hosts American Physical Therapy Association geriatrics certification course
The Department of Physical Therapy hosted an in-person capstone course for an American Physical Therapy Association geriatrics course June 26–29.
Twenty participants from across the U.S. performed hands-on lab work and were certified through a practical exam to finish the APTA Geriatrics Hybrid Certified Exercise Expert for the Aging Adult (CEEAA), a national-level short course held annually for physical therapists around the nation. The course offers a hybrid option for physical therapists to obtain a certification to expand their understanding of geriatric practice and how to empower patients to live a healthy, active life, said Julie Barnett, PT, DPT, MTC, assistant professor and faculty liaison for the event.
As site host, the department’s faculty and staff provided support, and Doctor of Physical Therapy students volunteered during the course weekend, Barnett said.
