About Me
My name is Jamie, and I am a first-generation Texan with a passion for neuroscience and serving my community. I grew up in the DFW metroplex, where my mom’s work as a sonographer kickstarted my love of medicine. My dream of becoming a doctor brought me to the University of Texas at Austin, and I graduated with a BS in Neuroscience in 2024. I also graduated with a new, unanticipated passion for research thanks to the Howard lab, whose work on understanding epilepsy inspired me to pursue translational research. After graduation, I joined the Electron Microscopy Core at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience. This experience further reinforced how even basic research can improve our understanding of human health and disease. I am beyond excited to be here at 51²è¹Ý, and I look forward to serving the San Antonio community as I become the best physician and scientist I can be.

Why I chose MD/PhD
I chose to pursue an MD/PhD because of the sense of purpose I find in the intersection between research and medicine. The MD/PhD gives physician-scientists the unique opportunity to improve their patients’ lives two-fold—both as a compassionate physician and as a driving force behind the knowledge that informs their treatments. In this way, my love of science and medicine can help me serve my community, impacting both the present and future of medicine.
Why I chose MD/PhD at 51²è¹Ý
While 51²è¹Ý has outstanding neuroscience research and a substantial track record of student success, what really drew me to pursue my MD/PhD training here was the community. From students to faculty to administration, I saw a genuine spirit of collaboration and support. I feel that no matter the challenge, I will have a team of people encouraging me and equipping me with the tools I need to succeed.
